Bacolod Travel Diary Part 1: Calea Pastries and Coffee

Calea Pastries and Coffee Bacolod
I know it's long overdue but here's part one of my Bacolod travel diary. Finally! *cue confetti* My first post is probably a tidbit obvious. You know me. I love my desserts so much that I made sure to drop by this famous dessert place called Calea Pastries and Coffee. Every time I turn my head, I can see sweets everywhere. Good Lord am I in heaven?

Calea Pastries and Coffee Bacolod
As I told you in this post, I flew to Bacolod not for fun or vacation (I wish!) but for work. It was a Saturday evening and both Jas and I felt all tired and droopy after a full week of work, work and work. The only fun we probably had by far was Facebook and the never ending Spongebob episodes on the Nickolodeon channel. Yes, you've read that right. Spongebob. Your eyes aren't fooling you! Haha. I guess we're just never too old for this show. I mean it's a definite classic! To sort of reward ourselves we decided to go to this shop recommended to us by a friend. Do know that we had to drag ourselves from bed as our bodies badly wanted to sleep for the rest of the day.

After hours of slacking around aka burying ourselves beneath our blankets, our stomachs got the better of us and we went off. Calea Pastries and Coffee was only 1.3 kilometers away from our hotel and it only took a 3 minute ride to get there. If you plan on taking the public transport (jeepney) like we did, you may opt to hop on those with the Bata-Libertad or Bata-Mandalagan routes. That is if you are staying in the Bacolod Business Inn hotel as well. Unfortunately Google Map has got the areas all wrong so I decided to make this revised map to help you out in case you do decide to visit the place too. It's very easy to spot as Calea is located in Balay Quince which is right across L Fisher Hotel. Trust me, it's fairly impossible to get lost in this city.

The moment I stepped inside, it felt like paradise. The interior was filled with pastel hues. If it isn't obvious yet, I love pastel colors so much. You don't believe me? Just look at the layout of this blog. Haha. There were comfy sofas with baroque designs. Fun filled images of desserts were framed and hanged on the wall. The tables were even adorned with patterns. Another thing which I loved the most was the lighting. Unfortunately, I didn't get to take a picture of their little chandelier of sorts. Visit the place and see for yourselves!

I ordered a slice of the classic favorite Black Forest cake. I know what you're thinking and my pesky foodie alter ego was asking the same question: "Why get a flavor that you can easily spot on regular bakeshops back in Cebu?" To that I answered, "Uuum Hello? Can't you see those lovely layers? I haven't seen those in any Black Forest cake ever!" There I go again, arguing with myself. LOL. But honestly, this has to be the best Black Forest there is. Those layers are jam packed with goodness and every bite melts in your mouth. There's an explosion of flavors! I can go on and on about this but... let's proceed, shall we?

Jasmine got a different one called Caramel Crumble if I'm not mistaken. Of course, I got to taste this one and she got to taste my cake too. What I love about this was the topping. I'm not sure what it is but it's definitely sweet like borderline sweet. If you're into that then I suggest that you go for this.

One cake slice costs around Php 75.00 - Php 85.00. Drinks are around Php 80.00 - Php 100.00. I can't really remember the exact prices and I forgot to take a picture of their menu. Sorry about that. Rest assured, this sugar treat will not hurt your pocket. Believe me, I'm the all around thrift freak in our group of friends and this place is worth your money. *wink*

Of course what's this post slash diary entry without our faces. Hahaha. Please excuse the eyebags and our haggard faces. We barely slept all week!

Calea Pastries and Coffee is located in Balay Quince, Lacson Street, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental. Sugar rush hours starts at 8:00 am to 10:00 pm from Mondays to Thursdays and 9:00 am to 11:00 pm from Fridays to Sundays.

Thanks for reading lovelies and see you soon!
