Whenever I'm blue, I thank the heavens for best friends and sweets. The glum clouds they shoo to bring rainbows and treats. I cannot quite fathom how life would feel like if these two would cease to exist. So to that, here's a toast to the Cupcake fairy for leading me to a road less taken, a route to a hidden gem called
Sweet Surprises.
True to its name, this cupcake and pastry shop is nothing but sweet thanks to the festive decors that fill every nook and cranny. I've seen its little sign board once on my way home and wrote it up on my list of places to eat and visit. I'm glad I did because it was the perfect place to spill my thoughts to my best friend. You see I was having a terrible week at the time. The sweet tooth that I am, desserts (plus friends and my little sister) will always soothe any of my sorrows. What's even better is that this little shop is neatly tucked in that there weren't as many people around considering it was a Saturday afternoon. Actually it was just us for three straight hours! It felt cozy and private. Plus it's definitely a cupcake paradise. It has everything about the said baked delight from posters to vases to mugs to plates to clocks to figurines to recipe books to candles to fancy cupcake stands and to everything. You name it! Don't believe me? Go see for yourself!
Did I forget to mention that everything was so pink? I have never been anywhere that had this hue in every shade imaginable under one roof!
Figurines anyone? Don't be fooled. These aren't your regular mini cupcakes. Eat them and you'll lose a tooth!
I wonder how it feels to be covered in sprinkles. I want to give it a try. You?
This Ferris wheel cupcake stand though. I badly want one! Do you see those cupcakes enjoying the ride? They're no edible treat. It's a face towel creatively folded to look like one.
They also have loads of baking stuff up for sale. This is a baker's paradise I'm telling you.
Enough with the faux cupcakes and onto the real thing! Which one to choose? There were so many flavors to pick from that it took me too long to decide. At least I didn't pick the fake one in this picture. Can you spot it? Honestly, it took me a while because I was too overwhelmed with all the sweet treats in front of me.
What I love about their cupcakes is that each one is entirely different from the other. Some shops that I've tried from only varied by the frosting but
Sweet Surprises proved to be different. They also sell other goodies like this cookie above, sandwiches and some brownies. Each cupcake retails at ₱ 58.00 per piece. They may be a little pricey but for the ambiance and the taste, it's actually quite worth it. I however wish that they had more on the menu when it came to drinks.
Would you look at those plates! Adorable right? Overall, this food adventure deserves a two thumbs up. I'll definitely come back to this paradise soon especially if I need a sweet treat with some peace and quite. Come to think of it,
Sweet Surprises is the perfect spot to read a novel!
Sweet Surprises is located in the ground floor of JDA Building along the entrance of Paradise Village in Banilad, Cebu City. They're open from Mondays to Saturdays from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. You can reach them through their
Facebook page or by calling 0915-929-6168.
Ciao for now and excuse me as I cover myself in sprinkles!

Yes it is! I hope you have fun on your visit Herbert.
A gem in paradise indeed. Everything was so cute that the place looked like a cupcake museum.
Hey this is just near the office! Everything looks so quaint and pretty! Will visit it soon!
This.place.is.so.CUTE! Thanks for sharing this Anne! Will definitely visit one of these days.
Thank you for sharing this! I've been looking for a cupcake place that was colorful and vibrant. Many cupcake shops are adapting the trendy (and serious) minimalist look in their stores. Although I love minimalism, I still think of cupcakes as a childhood treat, something fluffy and whimsical and messy to eat, and cupcake shops should be the same :D I'll definitely drop by Sweet Surprises, soon!
Gosh, the place looks neatly cute! Should probably go there. Thanks for this Anne! :)
Breakfastgirl and I were planning to go there tonight. Unfortunately, they close really early :(
Yay! Tell me about your experience when you do Jhanis!
Yehey. You're welcome!
I totally agree! The place looks like a cross between a doll house, a bakeshop and Wonderland come to life.
Cute for me would be an understatement. Hihi. You're welcome Kath!
Oh no sayang. Maybe some other time...
another cutiepie to visit. Nice!
Yeah!
It's like a playhouse..hahah perfect for kids and kids at heart. Indeed, sweet surprises! :)
Kids will love it for sure. Think about a doll house come to life!
I have a sweet tooth. They should serve me bigger cupcakes when I visit. Hehe.
Hahaha! The cupcakes are big enough but I do like the idea of a giant cupcake!
