#Dessert. How apt can this slice of cake be? For sweet tooth's like myself, no meal is complete without such saccharine indulgence. That would be like marriage without the love or jokes without the humor. If you've been reading this blog for a while now, you may have already realized how much of a sweet tooth I am. Thanks to an unlikely detour that my sister and I suffered, we discovered this place in Cebu called Butterbean Desserts and Cafe. We enjoyed it so much that before flying off to Manila, I scheduled a special date with my high school buddies here.
The interiors were pretty minimal and nothing too elaborate unlike many of the cafes in the city. It was actually a breath of fresh air and quite an ode to the simple and classic aesthetics. There was also enough room to accommodate a significant number of people and we didn't have to wait in queue considering it was a late afternoon on a Saturday. But thinking about it, maybe we just got lucky?
There were many dessert options to choose from such as cookies, cakes, edible chocolate spoons, pies, mousse, ice cream and snowy desserts otherwise known as shaved ice treats! We honestly wanted one of everything but it wasn't possible. If it were, believe me we would have gobbled everything in one sweep! Sadly, our stomachs could only stretch up to a certain limit. It was such a torture to be able to smell all these desserts around us and yet not be able to get a spoonful of each. At least there's a good reason to come back again, right?
Chocolate Cake with Honeycomb - ₱ 110.00
Green Tea Cake - ₱ 100.00
Blueberry Cheesecake - ₱ 130.00
This was the most interesting part of our day! Ice cream will forever be my comfort food. During my last holiday trip, I came across the Magnum Store at SM Aura where you can DIY your own Magnum bar. It was a surefire delight and I sorely wished that it was available in Cebu too. For some reason, the dessert gods must have heard me because Butterbean offered its own version of the treat! What makes it distinct is the fact that you can choose among three ice cream shapes: the spiral classic, the smiley face or the cutesy heart. I initially wanted the heart but they ran out of stock during our visit.
Cashews, chocolate chips and crushed Oreos for me please! What toppings would you pick?
Here are some snaps of Butterbean Desserts and Cafe's menu. Before I forget to mention it, they also offer special combinations where you get to have a main course, a dessert and a drink for only ₱ 225-250.00. This is good news if you're tight on budget but would still love to indulge in food!
Butterbean Desserts and Cafe is located at G&A Building, Escario Street corner Tojong Street, Cebu City. You can find them along the road where Kuya J Restaurant and the Parklane Hotel are. They are open daily, 11:00 am - 10:30 pm on Sundays through Thursdays and 11:00 am - 11:30 pm on Fridays to Saturdays. You can contact them at (032) 401-2710.
