If you need someplace touristy that's only a few minutes from the airport and showcases great food and awesome dining, BGC is the place to be. It was therefore a no-brainer when I brought my kindergarten best friends from Cebu to Bonifacio High Street's newest ice cream place, Freezer Burn.
The term "freezer burn" may not sound palatable by the dictionary's terms but chefs Miko Aspiras and Kristine Lotilla turned things around by marrying artisan ice cream with hot snacks. But more than taste, their desserts pack quite the graphic punch. If I may say, they fit the definition of what we nowadays call Instagram-able.
We were lucky enough to have the entire store all to ourselves one Tuesday afternoon. We originally wanted to order different servings but as per lesson learned (this story will be for another post), it's best to order a few and then add more when needed. Besides, my friends have a flight to catch so we didn't have long. We ended up ordering their best seller, the "Junkie", described to have cookies and junk food ice cream, Nutella donuts and caramel sauce in a syringe no less. Ice cream will forever be my comfort food while donuts come a close second so imagine my delight! This version of the "Junkie" is a composed dessert for share that retails at ₱295. (Scroll through below for the menu.) It's a little too pricey for us but as they say, quality comes most often with a price.
Like any true blue millenial, we took out our order for a quick photoshoot which wasn't hard given that every corner was beyond photogenic. You see, ice cream doesn't bid well with the Philippine climate and although the place was cool care of the AC , we didn't want it to melt away. Sacrificing experience for the sake of a great snap is not how you live your life. At least for me.
The shop was small and rather intimate but the interior designers made sure to maximize every square inch to truly encapsulate the brand. Filled with pastels and bright hues, it's truly a dream! I didn't get to take a lot of photos because we were too busy eating, my friends had a flight to catch and I had to run to an event. Looking back, that day was cray but it was hella fun. Filled to the brim in fact!
