Romblon Travel Diary: Binucot Beach

Travel Diary: Binucot Beach, Romblon Philippines | Anne's Scribbles and Doodles
When my grandma told me we'd go on a vacation in the middle of nowhere, the idea sounded straight out of a horror movie. Gladly, the islands of Romblon, Philippines proved otherwise. It was this untouched and beautiful paradise, far from the noise and pollution of the busy metropolis. There wasn't even any (consistent or strong) internet service! Social media detox anyone? But I digress. Romblon was the perfect escape and one day we decided to spend an afternoon at the Binucot Beach, frolicking by the shore and drinking/eating coconuts freshly plucked from the tree!

To be honest, this wasn't the first place on our itinerary nor our first day at the island. I just wanted to share it before the others because the introvert in me loved it so much. It was so raw, so fresh and so untouched. It's just you and nature. Nothing else.

Our grandma was born and raised in Romblon so I believe we had the upper hand during our trip with relatives as locals guiding us on where to go, what to eat and all that. From our great grandparents' house, we only took a 5-10 minute tricycle ride to get to Binucot Beach. The place is free, like most of the experiences we've had during this trip. (I know, I couldn't believe it myself!)

I had to pinch my arm several times when I first stepped foot on the shore. Paradise! And just when I thought this was it, our grandma and her sister told us that there's an entire stretch that's even more of a beauty waiting on the other side. So of course, we walked towards it all giddy and excited while enjoying the crisp and salty breeze!

We had the entire place all to ourselves. Well, save for these three besties who were also running around and soaking up some sun. The shore felt so pure. Not one trash! The only things you'd see scattered on the sand would be leaves and branches that were washed ashore. I'm hoping that it stays like this. Even with more people discovering this hidden gem with time's passing, I wish humanity makes it a point to preserve nature not destroy it.

As for the beauty my grandmas were talking about, it also came with a bit of magic (or well, science)...

While the rest of the shore was covered in tan "almost powdery" sand, a certain stretch that connected it to a small island of massive boulders, shrubs and trees were filled with shells of all sorts. You have to wear slippers to survive the walk! Our grandmas said that you only get to see the "shell beach" during the Amihan season as it disappears completely once the Habagat season comes in full swing. I can't vouch for that but if that's the case then I'd like to call us lucky! (We had this trip on the 10th of June 2017, says my planner. Yes, this post is a year late! Oopsies.)

And when we've had enough of the beach, we rested in one of these cute huts by the shore with the loveliest and most immaculate of views.

After taking one too many photos and dips on the beach, we jogged back to the other side for a cool refreshment and one that's just been plucked (or should I say dropped?) from the tree! I can't imagine how much I missed fresh coconut juice. After moving from Cebu to Manila, I never had the chance to savor the experience again until our Romblon trip! (Spoiler Alert: We had too maaaannny coconuts during our weeklong stay.)

Finger hearts for Romblon's Binucot Beach! Props to our mom sa pagsakay sa mga kalokohan namin gaya nito. Love yah silly! Lots of love to our grandmas, relatives and neighbors too for all the help (and food) during our stay. More stories to come in the next posts! *pinky swear*

But because these photos will never suffice nor give justice to the beauty that is Romblon's Binucot Beach, I made a little vlog to showcase what still imagery failed to capture.  PS: We found Mr. Crab's cousin!

Have you been to Binucot Beach or in one of Romblon's islands?
